Why You Should Build From A Custom Design On Your Lot

Why You Should Build From A Custom Design On Your Lot

Homes are in high demand in the greater Triangle area. It’s not always clear though whether one should be looking for an existing home or instead of trying to find a perfect lot on which to build a custom home. While there are advantages and disadvantages to each, opting for the custom-built route is preferable.

The perfect location

A major benefit to building a custom home is you can start by simply searching for your perfect location. If you have to start by looking for an existing home that meets all your needs and preferences, location often takes a back seat.

When building from scratch though, you can put some time into thinking about what the best school system might be. You can find a location closer to work that is still close to family. You can find land next to a lake or near a particular town you enjoy. It’s really up to you because, at this point, all you have to think about is where you want to be located.

Avoiding hidden problems and costs

Some will say that building custom costs a little more, and it can, but it can also save you a lot of money, time, and trouble in the long-run. Rather than immediately making a list of a dozen expensive projects you’ll need to do over the next decade, you can start with something you’re already satisfied with. You’re also not paying for all the items and upgrades that were added for the original owners but that you don’t like.

Not only that, but pre-existing homes often have hidden problems lurking under the surface. Maybe mold has been building for decades in the crawl space, and the inspector missed it. Maybe pests like insects and rodents have taken up residence somewhere unseen. Maybe the water heater, or HVAC system, or roof, or foundation, or any number of other things are on their last legs. With a custom, new home, you avoid all this baggage and get to start fresh.

You get to customize

It may go without saying, but with a custom home, you get to customize. Rather than spending months searching for a needle in a haystack, you get to visit a needle designer and tell them exactly what the specifications should be. The perfect home for your family can be very difficult to locate, and once you do, you may have stiff competition to get it. This whole stressful search for the perfect home is unnecessary when you build custom. That home probably had a ton of things you would have wanted to change once you moved in any way.

It’s fun!

Rather than a stressful search, Winslow Homes aims to make building your custom home an enjoyable process. You sit down with a designer and discuss what exactly you would love to see. You walk the property and think about how you can best place the home on the land. You personalize every room until you’re completely happy with it. It becomes a fun process taken at your own pace.
